The common elements shared between People's Republic of China and European Union in nation branding

English Abstract

There are an increasing number of countries all over the world pay much attention to differentiate themselves on the world stage by using the strategy of nation branding. Nation branding helps them to enhance economic performance, consolidate political place as well as strengthen cultural relations. China and the EU have been well-known as strong actors on the global scene. They have enjoyed a flourishing partnership in recent decades and they will keep creating and enriching a comprehensive partnership in the future. Although the nation branding of China and the EU share various distinctions since they are different in political system, economy model and many other areas. However, to study the common elements of nation branding prompt to collect more theoretical information for nation branding and improve the EU-China relations. In this thesis, the analysis of nation branding is using a tool of political communication – the high level official speeches – as the case study of both entities. In the end, conclusions are drawn to answer the research questions and several suggestions are proposed for China and the EU in nation branding strategy and the development of their mutual relationship.
