The Bible as literature : a case study of narrative writing in the book of Ruth from the King James' version

English Abstract

Abstract of thesis entitled "The Bible as Literature: a case study of narrative writing in the Book of Ruth from The King James Version" Submitted By Chan I Man, Florence (M-B2-4004-8) for the degree of Master of Arts in English Studies at the University of Macau in June 2016 The Book of Ruth is classified as exegetical literature. It is worth studying as it is a short story cohesively connecting Israel's earlier history with the period of the establishment of monarchy. Ruth is a Moabite, her exemplary conduct and faithful characters contribute her inclusion in the genealogy of the Davidic family. This paper looks at the story of a Moabite woman in an exogamous marriage living under Jewish law. The discourse structure of literary writing in the Book of Ruth is considered as biblical literature with a new literary analysis of the bible with an emphasis on literary style. The significance of my study attempts to explain the differences and similarities between more texts and characters, also known as intertextual analysis.
