After the transfer of sovereignty to China in 1999, Macau is increasingly popular and gradually becomes one of the main choices for Mainland Chinese students for cross-border study. The unique western and Chinese cultural imprint of Macau distinguishes itself from Mainland China. Hence, the adaption of mainland students who study in Macau enjoys a highly social and academic significance. Meanwhile, the highly developed social media industry offers this topic the possibilities. This thesis mainly focuses on the role of social media on the cross-cultural experience on the cross-border students from Mainland China. The method of in-depth interview was conducted respectively among ten master students from various regions of China who were currently studying in Macau. The results suggest that social media enhances students' cross-border experience and strengthen their interpersonal relationship by satisfying students' informational and affective needs, thus alleviating students' loneliness and anxiety when separating apart with their old relations.
