Title

The rise of China and readjustment in Chinese foreign policy strategy in East Asia

English Abstract

In many eyes of people, whenever talking about China, they would think of the old China which was a closed-door, self-sufficient and developing country. China did not give people a positive image especially after the Tiananmen Incident. However, with the 30 years Open-door policy, opening up the import and export trade, accepting foreign direct investment, China has an amazing improvement in its economy. Contemporarily, with the strong economy support, China does improve itself such as military and foreign strategic policy. China not only to consolidate its hard power, and also tries to develop its soft power. China introduces Confucius cultural to foreigners, received a great succeed on both Shanghai Expo and Olympics Games. And now, every action and step China made has already caught attentions from other countries especially the United States. Now, people called China "The Rising China", and regards it as an awaking dragon. Countries are preventing this awaking dragon from growing too big to change the World. However, on the other hand, China continuously gives its signal of maintaining a "Harmonious World" to international. No one knows whether if China brings a more assertive foreign strategic policy or a more reserved foreign strategic policy. For that, in my thesis, I will take a deep analysis to find out which trend does China approaching after its rise. The focus of the thesis is to study the changes and readjustments of the Chinese foreign strategic policy after the rise of China. To take research on whether it has a more defensive trend or not. I used two case studies - The South China Sea Disputes and The East Sea Disputes to support my hypothesis. In fact, it is really important to understand the trend of Chinese foreign strategic policy going as China now possesses a vital international status.
