Title

The Sino-U.S. trade friction and its impact on Sino-U.S. relations

English Abstract

With rapid economic development cooperation is increasingly closer, among which that between the United States and China attracts the greatest attention. As greatest world powers, they both enjoy a significant growth in trade volume, and meanwhile some trade frictions inevitably emerge between them. The eruption of subprime crisis in 2008 further intensified the trade frictions and disputes between them, and once affected their normal relationship on a state level. Focus of this essay is placed on possible influences of the trade frictions on the relations between the two states, in a perspective of relieving such tensions. This essay makes an in-depth research into Sino-US trade with emphasis on the frictions, beginning with a review of the progress of this relationship and frictions thus occurred. Then it sorts out and elaborates various manifestations and characteristics of such frictions. To follow, in order to figure out a solution to existing problems, on the basis of above review, I conduct a deep analysis of reasons in connection with the trade frictions in the perspective of either side, thus providing a valuable reference point for the development of trade between the two countries in future. With a full understanding of the current situation, characteristics and causes of the Sino-US trade frictions, I conduct case study using the cases of the Sino-US tyres safeguard case and RMB exchange rate issue. Through reviewing the cases and analyzing the causes of trade frictions by using international relation theories, I analyze the influence of trade frictions on Sino-US relations. In the end, suggestions and measures for the settlement of Sino-US trade frictions and further development of Sino-US relationship in the future are proposed in the essay. Based on the ideas, I describe my own outlook of the Sino-US trade and the bilateral relationship as a whole. Key points and conclusions of this study are outlined as follows: 1. The leading causes of the trade friction lie in: US economic recession, discriminative trade policy and political interference; on the other hand, on China's, high foreign trade dependence, limited profit export products, lack of awareness in international transaction and under-develop system, etc. 2. The trade friction between China and the United States seriously affects the economic development and harms state relationship between them. 3. China should embark on adjustment of industrial structure and the trade patterns, expansion of domestic demand, enhancement of self-protection awareness, restructuring of foreign trade in geographical distribution and product variety, so as to improve the current situation and promote its own economic development. On the other hand, the U.S should deregulation and export expansion, implement reasonable fiscal policy and curb excessive domestic consumption, improve the residents' savings and control the residents' consumption, and strengthen cooperation to protect the intellectual property rights. Key words: Sino-US Relations, Trade frictions, Impact
