This thesis aims to analyze how the Chinese-language newspapers frame the images of France and influence the Chinese people's views of France. By adopting a mixed-method strategy combining quantitative and qualitative approach to analyze 683 retrieved France-related news items from Chinese-language newspapers, represented by People's Daily, Guangming Daily (China), Global Times, and Southern Weekend, this study examines how the politics, economics, foreign affairs, culture, and society dimensions of France were famed to the Chinese public from January 1st 2008 to December 31st 2008. It investigates the monthly volume, major topics, phrases, headlines, tones, news sources of the retrieved sample. The research results show that the Peoples Daily, Guangming Daily and Southern Weekend adopted a mainly positive and neutral attitude towards France throughout the year 2008, while Global Times reported negatively and with sensationalism to some extent, especially after the Olympic torch relay disruptions in Paris and Sarkozy's meeting with the Dalai Lama. The negative tone in news coverage resonated with the public unfavorable attitudes and views of France.
