Title

Where local meets international : Taiwan and Hong Kong television series in Mainland China : a case study of Liaoning Televsion Station [1994-2004]

English Abstract

The study focuses on a new direction of the global and local relation: to analyze the appreciation level and the degree of reference value on part of local TV professionals, particularly those in the Liaoning TV Station (LNTV) in regard to main TV elements and various genres on Hong Kong and Taiwan TV serials. It investigates the way in which the import of international TV programs would influence the development and localization of television diversity in genre formation and production. This case study represents an initial effort to explore the complicated issues regarding the localization of foreign TV programs in mainland China from the perspective of the appreciation/reference analysis. It offers an in-depth examination of the strategies that the local TV player applies to overcome the difficulties and struggle for survival in this battlefield of the local-international mediascape.
