Fracture and nostalgia in military dependents village : taking the creation of the Zhu family in Taiwan as an example

English Abstract

Zhu's sisters Zhu Tianwen and Zhu Tianxin are very representative Taiwan's second-generation writers in contemporary Taiwanese literary circles. With the passage of time, Taiwan's second-generation experienced the decline of their fathers and political upheavals, and the accusations of "outsiders" by public opinion in Taiwan became more and more rampant. In such a complicated political and cultural atmosphere, Taiwan's second-generation writers faced many problems that had to be responded to and resolved. The first chapter of this article introduces the research themes and research status. The research theme is the intergenerational and internal fracture that Taiwan's second-generation encountered in the works of the Zhu sisters, as well as the nostalgic writing of the two writers. The second chapter first compares the works of Zhu Tianxin's son Xie Haimeng with those of Zhu Tianxin and Zhu Tianwen. As a Taiwan's third-generation, Xie Haimeng's identity as a “outsiders" has been rejected by himself, His attitude towards both his own identity and Taiwan is quite different from that of his parents, which is an intergenerational fracture. Next, following article discuss the fracture in Taiwan's second-generation. Zhu Tianwen and Zhu Tianxin both described Taiwan's second-generation who left Taiwan to go to the United States in their works, and the fracture of a generation occurred here. The third chapter analyzes the nostalgia strategy adopted by the two writers and the specific content of nostalgia. The people of the same generation who separated from Taiwan and the United States have not really broken. Different experiences and the same destiny make them still one and two sides of each other, and they can still understand each other. The sense of intimacy in the life of military dependents in their childhood reappears. When writing about nostalgia, the two writers took a more cautious attitude and respectively identified the objects of their dreams, so as to avoid the expansion of the objects of nostalgia and fall into the cliche of nostalgia. However, in spite of this, nostalgia still obscures the writer's gaze to a certain extent. The last chapter summarizes the full article and proposes the possibility of further research. Keyword: Zhu Tianwen; Zhu Tianxin; Nostalgia; Military dependent village
