The tone of voice that he uses when announcing he's going out is so...SOMETHINGy that I would've been immediately suspiscous.
I'll bet that these people made 'That Woman Jane' about some pants wearing war worker who falls for a fly-by-night discharged serviceman and gets syphillis. That seems to be their tone. Speaking of which, the war doesn't show up here at all.
