International migratory movements in the globalized world bring to society an impact that forces us to rethink concepts such as language, culture and identities. With this vision, included in the context of Chinese immigration in Brazil, the present work aims to discuss the discursive construction of the identities of the leaders of the initiatives of teaching Portuguese to Chinese immigrants, undertaken by the Chinese evangelical churches in Sao Paulo. In the light of the Interactional Sociolinguistics (Goffman, [1959]2008, [1964]2002, 1974, 1981, [1981] 2002:Gumperz,1982a,1982b; Ribeiro and Garcez, 2002; Schiffin, 1996; Tannen, 1992, 1993:Pereira, 2002 ), we attempt to interpret the leaders' positions from contextualization cues(Gumperz, 1982a), in order to reflect on the construction of their identities (Bauman, 2005:Hall, 2000; Gumperz & Cook-Gumperz, 1982; Bucholtz & Hall , 2005; Moita Lopes, 2003,2006) in front of the initiatives. To this objective, we conducted a field research and interviewed6 initiative leaders. We adopted the qualitative method - Ethnographic Microanalysis (Erickson,1996)- to analyze the discourse of the leaders. The results show that the context of the initiatives is symbolized as a space for religious literacy, reception and socialization. The Portuguese language is represented with a broader perspective, as a space for interaction, integration and host. In relation to their leadership actions, the subjects position themselves as social actors concerned with a practice of solidarity and religious literacy.
