- English Abstract

Show / Hidden
The USA and China are different countries and cultures in many ways, and in this dissertation I want to explore some of those cultural differences by way of analyzing four television programs - two from each country – the U.S.A and P.R of China, specifically campus and youth based dramas, in order to study both young and mature female characters. I will focus on cultural factors and forms of behavior, particularly those associated with gender and gender politics. The focus will be on cultural differences and continuities, forms and principles of behavior, ethics and forms of morality, the role of the family, the relation between character and cultural norms, and the kinds of stories and narratives that are associated with different characters.
