A substantial literature has shown the importance of fostering preschoolers’ creativity in their later life. Many researchers found that preschoolers’ creativity development relates to parental behaviors, a key factor of preschoolers’ development. In the present study, I concentrate on investigating the influence of maternal personality and parenting styles on four-to-six-year-old children’s creativity performance. Participants were recruited from five provincial-level kindergartens in Zhuhai. Results show that: 1) the four dimensions of maternal personality characteristics, namely, “Openness”, “Agreeableness”, “Extraversion” and “Conscientiousness” are significantly correlated with parenting styles; 2) maternal personality and children’s creativity performance is not significantly related when family background is partialled out; and 3) for parenting style, a strong relationship has been found between authoritarian of parenting dimension and originality in creativity dimension (r=-0.265, p=.014). Besides, an unexpected result shows that family background has an effect on children’s imagination dimension of creativity (F (5, 81) = 4.641, p=.001). Other factors give no significant result.
