Abstract With the rapid growth of China's economy and the rising influence of China's politics on international stage, Chinese Premier's press conferences during the NPC and CPPCC sessions have attracted great attention from all over the world. As the "bridge" between the Chinese government and foreign media, the interpretation produced by interpreters not only deals with the relations of the government and the press, but also conveys the effective information to the foreign audience. Therefore, the quality of the interpretation has a direct effect on the interest and world image of China. Nine years press conference interpretation data (2008-2016) are collected and being constructed to a small corpus for case analysis. Based on the data collected, the present researcher tries to find what kinds of interpreting strategies the interpreters used when they were interpreting press conference. And after analyzing the characteristics and interpreting strategies of the 9 years' press conference interpretation, the researcher explores how the three factors: ideology, poetics and patronage manipulate the interpretation, and finds out which factor is the primary one on the choice of those different strategies. Through the case analysis, the researcher indicates that ideology functions outside the translation system, but it has decision-making influence on the choice of interpreting strategies. The direct and indirect patronages that are guided by ideology work together to rewrite the interpretation work. Poetic suggests that interpreters should take into account the poetic effects of target languages and receptivity of target readers, so that the target-oriented strategies should be adopted to reduce the strangeness of readers. And among these three manipulation factors, ideology is the primary factor on the choice of those different interpreting strategies due to the political characteristics of source language. Finally, the research concludes that while doing political interpretation, interpreters are suggested to take into account of these extra-textual elements and pay enough attention to the outer environment of interpretation activities, and then, choose the appropriate interpreting strategies.
