Abstract This thesis studies eight passages written in English on Feizan, a Chinese social networking service website, by adopting the Critical Discourse Analysis methodology of Fairclough's three-dimensional approach. These passages are classified according to their themes: (l) identity and coming out, (2) heteronormativity and stereotypes of homosexuality, and (3) views of love. The analysis shows that heteronormativity dominates or deeply influences public attitudes towards the LGBTQ community and even homosexuals ' self-identity-construction (disclosure of homosexual identity) and self-realization. Keywords: Critical Discourse Analysis; gay discourse; online community; heteronormativity
