Assessing Weibo marketing strategies of Macau's hospitality industry

English Abstract

Following the widespread use of social media in various fields in recent years, more and more Macau hotels have come onboard with social media marketing. This thesis focuses on the use of social media by Macau hospitality industry targeting mainland Chinese consumers. All the tweets from 1st to 30th April, 2015 of 15 large Macau hotels Weibo homepage are carefully assessed quantitatively and qualitatively. Analysis of Macau hotels Weibo content raises questions about the compatibility between the services of the hospitality industry and Weibo. Four key findings about Macau hospitality industry's Weibo activities between the services of the hospitality industry and Weibo are also discussed in the thesis: Events attract most social media attention; There is synergy Celebrities and events held in Macau hotels have ; General inquiry is a significant motive for user generated content on hotel Weibo homepages; Weibo content mirrors the lack of differentiation among Macau hotels.
