This thesis is a report of an integrative review regarding the prevalence and characteristics of all forms of child trafficking in Asia’s low and middle-income countries (LMICs) since 2000. Theoretical and empirical studies in this area are underrepresented and poorly synthesized. In order to develop and improve prevention and interventions programs, sound evidence is required for policymakers and practitioners to take measures to prevent the heinous crime. Based on a comprehensive search of database sources on EBSCO Discovery, this review identified 21 publications regarding the prevalence and characteristics of all forms of child trafficking in LIMCs of Asia from 2000 to 2015. Child trafficking cases are highly rampant among impoverished countries, areas, communities and families. The clandestine and organized nature as well as the involvement of hidden population have made it difficult to research and discuss the crime. Three major issues related with child trafficking emerged including the difficulty of accurately estimating the scale of the problem, barriers to reporting, and barriers to prosecution, conviction and justice. Themes of poverty, gender inequality and discrimination, demand factors, conflict and natural disaster, government corruption, deficiencies and loopholes in legislation and low enforcement activities, child marriage and family risk factors such as dysfunctional families, low social-economic status, lack of access to education, skill training and viable employment opportunities as well as vulnerabilities of being a child per se have been identified as factors placing children, both male and female, at IV the risk of child trafficking. Overall, these findings would give readers an overall picture of child trafficking in the developing countries of Asia and lay a foundation for further analysis on this problem.
