Title

Investigation on renewable energies for Macau

English Abstract

Investigation on Renewable Energies for Macau by Chio, Sio Kuan Thesis Supervisor: Dr. T. W. Ching In recent decades, renewable and sustainable power generation develop rapidly. This is to be expected, renewable power converter will be more and more important and decrease the depended of traditional power generating systems. Therefore, solar power and wind power would gradually replace the present energy systems. Solar power is energy that is derived from the sun and converted into heat or electricity. For many years, many businesses and institutions are researching new ways to harness the power of the sun and make its use more practical and effective. However, solar power is already widespread use in both developed and developing countries. It is a versatile source of renewable energy that can be used in an amazing number of applications, providing power for everything from cars and boats to houses and spacecraft. It is also clean and pollution-free. Wind power is using wind turbines or sails by air flow to produce mechanical or electrical power, and same as solar power, also is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation and uses little land. The effects of solar and wind power on the environment are generally less problematic than those from other power sources. In this project, prototype solar and wind power systems were built in Macau were conducted including tests the efficiency tests. In order to achieve it, an Off Grid Solar and Wind Power System was constructed, the operational performance and efficiency characteristic of a small PV and wind charger system were investigated. The data of Solar and Wind Power System would be recorded and analyzed.
