This thesis focuses on a propaganda-poster-like painting produced by two British men and North Korean painters. It is part of the “Beautiful Future” series. It cites and rearticulates socialist propaganda art motifs. In using the semiotic theory of structures, metafunction and mythology as the primary tools to interpret and analyze the image, I have adopted the perspective of cultural studies. It accordingly raises the question of production and consumption, while investigating the relationships between propaganda and power.
