Summary: The availability of natural resources such as water, forests, and land throughout the world has decreased over time, both in terms of quality and quantity, due to human being's developments. Fortunately, we have management as a brilliant way to hold back the deteriorating situation. Integrated River Basin Management is gradually accepted in the worldwide, the best example is the adoption of Water Framework Directive in the European Union. Besides embedding the concept into legislations, corresponding institutional structures have to be established and practical implementation strategies should be adopted, for the sake of making the de facto conforming to the de jure. This thesis is going to analyze how the Integrated River Basin Management is separately incarnated in the EU and China, specifically from three layers: legal basis, institutional structure and implementation strategy. At the end, comparison will be carried on between EU and China, hoping EU's success can contribute to Chinese water management in certain ways.
