Title

Uma dinastia de empresarios : A familia Vicente Rosa em Macau no Seculo XVIII

English Abstract

This thesis is based on the study of a very influential Macanese family in Macau, in the eighteenth century - Vicente Rosa family. This research aims to identify the elements of this family, social network linked to it, as well as their influence in the following areas: social, political, diplomatic, trade and economic, both in Macau and in Southeast Asia. To achieve the objectives proposed, we undertook a documental and literature research, based mainly on Portuguese sources, but not exempting the foreign sources that had given an additional contribution. This study concluded that Vicente Rosa family moved in all areas mentioned above, resisting adversity and extending its influence from Macau to reach an international dimension. Indeed, throughout the eighteenth century, the Vicente Rosa family has been linked to Macau through marriage and descent, involved in the administration of local institutions and expanding their business networks, especially in the Southeast Asia, forming a "dynasty of entrepreneurs" in the last quarter of the century.
