Title

A correlational study on the self concept and employment status among physically disabled in Hong Kong

English Abstract

This study tries to provide corroboration of previous discussions that the employment status has prominent effect on the psychological aspect of individuals. The physically disabled, because of their disabilities, are always barred from participating in this most important societal activity - work. A graduate correlational study consisting of 105 subjects, was investigated the relationship between the self concept and their respective employment status. The subjects were request to complete the Tennessee Self Concept Scale, a questionnaire on their employment status and level of independence . The subjects scored generally low in the Self concept Scale and reported with overall below average employment status. Through statistical tests, significant relationships were found between self concept and employment status.
