An empirical study on consumers' participation in food safety traceability system in China

English Abstract

Food quality and safety issues have aroused widespread concern in the society with food quality and safety issues occurred continuously in China. From an economic perspective, information asymmetry in the food supply chain is the underlying cause of food quality and safety incidents. Food safety traceability system provides consumers with food quality and safety information, which is one of critical means to prevent and control food quality and safety. Consumers, as an important participant in the food safety traceability systems, are the key force to promote the implementation of food safety traceability systems. Research on consumers' participation of the food safety traceability systems is of great significance in advancing the construction of a food safety traceability in China. This thesis selected Chinese consumers randomly as survey objects and an online questionnaire survey was done to obtain data on the consumers’ acceptance of food safety traceability systems and relevant influencing factors. Through research, the trust, information quality, food safety concern, habit, and government policy are the main five factors affecting consumers' acceptance of the food safety traceability systems. And there are two factors that have no influence on consumers’ acceptance of food traceability systems, which are health consciousness and price value.
