Abstract: Steeped in the Ignatian spirituality of seeking God in all things the two Jesuits have become inspiring figures of Christian life in a secular world. The paper explores how Karl Rahner, one of the greatest theologians of the 20th century, and Alfred Delp, a Christian martyr in Nazi Germany, drew their intellectual strength and social commitment from a practice of meditation and prayer that gave firm direction to their lives in adverse environments.
